What is Blockz?

An overview of Blockz, Cuez's block template management tool, and how it fits into the Cuez product family.

Blockz is Cuez's dedicated block template management tool. It is a separate web application where broadcast engineers design and maintain the cue block templates that producers and others use in Cuez Rundown (or MOS Newsroom systems). Depending on the NRCS you use, Blockz can be accessed directly or from within Cuez Rundown.

What is a block template?

A block template defines the structure of a cue block: which fields it contains, what type those fields are, how they are labeled, and what appears in the block's collapsed header row. Think of it as a blueprint. When a user inserts a block into a rundown episode, they are filling in an instance of that block template.

Block templates are created and managed in Blockz. The filled-in block instances (the actual content) live in the Cuez Rundown episode.

Who uses Blockz?

Blockz is generally aimed at broadcast engineers and system administrators, being the ones who handle the configuration of the block templates. Producers and other users do not need to access Blockz configurations directly, but interact with blocks inside Cuez Rundown.

How Blockz fits into the Cuez product family

Blockz works together with other Cuez products:

Product

Role

Blockz

Where admins and engineers create and manage block templates

Cuez Rundown

Where producers use blocks in episodes

Automator

Where the episodes (rundowns) with their blocks are loaded and connected to the devices in the studio

Cuez Admin

Where the organization is managed, and block repositories are assigned to groups and projects

Blockz also works together with third party newsroom computer systems (NRCS) like Avid iNews and AP ENPS using the MOS protocol. For more information on this use case, see MOS Newsroom Integrations.
