Block template field types

A reference guide to all six field types available in Blockz block templates, with configuration options and use cases for each.

Block templates support six field types. Each type controls what kind of input a producer sees when they open a block in Cuez Rundown or compatible third party NRCS.

Plain text

A free-text input field. Producers can type anything into it.

Configuration options:

  • Field name - the label shown to producers

  • Required - if enabled, the block cannot be saved with this field empty

  • Default value - pre-fills the field with a value when the block is first inserted

  • Character limit - sets a maximum length; a live counter (for example 0/40) appears on the field as the producer types

Use for: clip titles, reporter names, URLs, cue descriptions.

Label

A single or multi-select field with color-coded options that you define. Producers pick from your predefined list.

Configuration options:

  • Field name

  • Required

  • Allow multiple selections - turns it into a multi-select

  • Items - define each option with a name, a color (14 available), and optionally a default value

  • Items can be added one at a time, in bulk via 'Bulk Insert' (format: color; name; default, one per line, for example red; Breaking News; false), or imported by pasting CSV content directly, useful for quickly entering a long list of options

Use for: shot types, audio routing (SOT/VO), graphic categories, story types.

Media

A media picker field. When a producer clicks it in the Cuez Rundown episode, it opens the Browz media browser so a clip, graphic, still, or audio file can be attached.

Configuration options:

  • Field name

  • Required

  • Media integration

Media fields always display in the Media panel to the right of the canvas, not in the main field grid. The Media panel only appears when at least one media field is present in the template.

For media fields to work, a media library must be configured in Cuez Admin by an organization owner. See Setting up media libraries for how to connect and assign a library.

Use for: VT/clips, graphics files, still images, audio files.

Boolean

A yes/no toggle. Renders as a switch that producers can flip on or off.

Configuration options:

  • Field name

  • Default value - sets whether the toggle defaults to on or off

Use for: live/recorded flags, SOT on/off, enable/disable indicators.

List

A dropdown field populated from a list defined in Cuez Admin. Unlike Label fields, you do not define the options inside the block template. The options are maintained centrally in Cuez Admin and can be reused across multiple templates.

Configuration options:

  • Field name

  • Required

  • Select a list - choose which Cuez Admin list to connect

Use for: shared option sets that need to stay consistent across multiple templates, for example, camera preset names, graphics template names, or studio locations.

If no list has been configured yet, the field shows no lists to select. Lists are created and managed by an organization owner in Cuez Admin. See Managing Lists for how to create and assign lists.

MOS

A field that links a block to a story item in a connected NRCS via its MOS ID.

Click MOS at the bottom of the left sidebar to set it up.

Until MOS is configured, this field type does not appear in the Add Field picker.

Configuration options:

  • Field name

  • Required

  • Device type - select the target device: Bitcentral, xPression, Generic, Viz Pilot, Chyron CAMIO, or Softron

  • MOS ID to listen for - the MOS ID string this field matches against (for example, company.device.system.mos)

Use for: blocks that need to stay matched to a specific story item in your NRCS via MOS.
